Signs and Symptoms

There are a wide range of signs and symptoms associated with Multiple Sclerosis. In MS, there is usually an abnormality with the immune system. For SOME reason, the immune system recognises some neurons of the nervous system as non-self. Because of this, MS is regarded as an auto-immune disease, as the body's immune system attacks the myelin sheath cells. For most people, the immune system attacks the myelin sheath once, and the sufferer's health gradually improves from that point. For others, they may experience a series of attacks, but they gradually become better. This disease affects patients for a long period of time, they usually never become cured from MS. Because of these factors, different people suffering from MS result in different signs and symptoms. The typical symptoms of MS range from muscle weakness to blurred vision, and speech difficulties to "pins and needles", to name a few. People with MS say that MS is like: when your 21, and you've just spent the whole week partying, and when you're waking up the next morning, you're so tired, your "dragging out of bed", but you still have to go to work and attend school. Having MS is like "being high off weed", "completely out of shape and running a mile", but you're not dependent on drugs, your not unfit and your not on alcohol -you're sober. This is what it feels like with MS all the time; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
